Since qualifying as an architect in 1974 (ETSAB) and gaining his doctorate (cum laude) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Polytechnic University of Catalonia) in 1994, Josep Lluيs Mateo has always combined professional and academic activity. Since 2008, he has been the President of the Board of Directors of the BIArch (Barcelona Institute of Architecture) and, since 2002, Professor of Architecture and Projects at the ETH-Eidgenِssische Technische Hochschule (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich). His most recently works are t he ext ension of  t he company PG G M‟s headq uar ters in Utr ech (Netherlands), the offices for the companies VINCI/NEXITY in Paris and the new Film Theatre of Catalunya in Barcelona.
