Mario Botta was born in 1943 in Mendrisio, Switzerland. From the single family houses in his native Ticino Canton his work covers all building typologies: schools, banks, office buildings, libraries, museums and, in the last decade, religious buildings. Since 1996 he is involved as creator and founder of the Accademia di architettura in Mendrisio where he is professor and held the directorship in 2002/2003. His work has been recognized with important awards and has been presented in many exhibitions. In September 2010, the MART museum of modern and contemporary art, he designed in Rovereto, has inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to his 50 years of career
