Professor Nezar AlSayyad Chair, Center for Middle Eastern Studies; President, International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments University of California, Berkeley,
Nezar AlSayyad is Professor of Architecture, City Planning, Urban Design, and Urban History; Chair, Center for Middle Eastern Studies; Director and President, International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments. As a scholar, AlSayyad has authored and edited several books on housing, identity, tradition, urbanism, urban design, urban history, urban informality, tourism and virtuality. He is the editor of the journal Traditional Dwellings and Settlements Review (TDSR). He has also produced and directed two public television video documentaries: “Virtual Cairo” and “At Home with Mother Earth.” Professionally active as an architect, planner, and consultant on urban design in the United States and Egypt, he is Principal of XXA-Office of Xross-Xultural Architecture |
