Urban Heritage
Nick is a Director of the Severn
Partnership; a UK based firm of Chartered Land
surveyors. A graduate in Geography & Geology,
converting to Geomatics by studying a Masters degree
at University College London. Nick has 20 years
experience in surveying and has been involved with
3D laser scanning from 2004.
Being an early adopter of LIDAR &
laser scanning, he has managed a variety of projects
from Kings Cross train station, London to kinematic
scanning of the Severn Tunnel. He is also involved
with Wolverhampton University on research into 3D
modelling inputs into BIM systems and efficient
extraction from LIDAR data.
Nick is a member or the Permanent Way
Institute (Railway track engineering) and sits on
the Education, Professional Development & Membership
committee of the Chartered Institute of Civil
Engineering Surveyors. With interests in business
systems development, Nick has also given talks to
the EU, BISS and the IOD on utilising open-source &
cloud based software. He also maintains links with
University College London through work on long
distance engineering survey grids (Snake grids -
such as the 165 mile survey from Dublin to Cork).
