Dr. Yasser Elsheshtawy Dept. of Architecture. UAE University
Yasser Elsheshtawy is Associate Professor of Architecture at the United Arab Emirates University. He holds a Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His research has focused on environment-behavior studies, and urban planning in Middle Eastern cities. He has published extensively in renowned journals in the field. In addition he authored and edited a series of books which include “Dubai: Behind an Urban Spectacle” (2009), “The Evolving Arab City” (2008), and “Planning Middle Eastern Cities” (2004, 2009) – all published by Routledge/London. He has been invited to present his work at numerous international institutions such as Harvard Design School, Tongji University/Shanghai, the ETH/Zurich, and the International Architectural Biennale/Rotterdam. He is also involved as a planning consultant for various organizations, which include the United Nations Economic and Social Commission of Western Asia (UN-ESCWA); and the Urban Land Institute (ULI) based in Washington, DC. He has also collaborated as a cultural advisor with AECOM (Abu Dhabi) in various local competitions; and Shigeru Ban Architects (Tokyo) in the Sheikh Zayed Museum at Saadiyat Island competition, and most recently the Sheikh Zayed Memorial competition. |
