Rivers in Shanghai and New York This will be a visual presentation of the comparative role of the river and the waterfront in the histories, and urban formation of Shanghai and New York. It will offer a careful examination of city maps and illustrations from the earliest times into the present showing both how formative the presence of the river has been yet, how unpredictable its impact over time. These two most powerful world cites offer contrasting lessons as to the most and least productive relationship between urban form and water frontage. |
