Waterfront: Reflection of changes

The waterfront, be it along the sea or a river is a strong indicator of the mutations and vitality of a city or a region. Here the changes take place radically and dramatically: redevelopment of a former harbour or an industrial zone,

extension on the sea, redesign of a new skyline or edification of a new landmark…

Through a selection from our waterfront architectural and urban design projects, our intervention will highlight the following themes:

- The multiple scales of a waterfront intervention: design approaches for building, city, landscape, seascape and environmental issues (i.e. Commercial boulevard and landscape design in Lusail, Qatar)

- Synergy of waterfront development with the city and/or the region: transformation, reorientation, renewed image, … (i.e. Masterplan of Le Port in La

Reunion Island, Masterplan of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai)

- Urban and architectural schemes and expressions when cities extend on the sea (i.e. Cultural centre, hotel and residence in Monaco, Rotana Hotel and residential complex in Beirut, Solidere)

- Waterfronts as strategic location for iconic buildings (ex. The European)
